Vasu Mohan
Deputy Regional Director, Asia
Vasu Mohan has over 12 years of experience in democracy, governance and human rights programming in Asia with a specific focus on political, social and legal empowerment of the disenfranchised – youth, women, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. He has been with IFES since 2001 and supervised programs and field offices in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor Leste. He currently serves as Deputy Regional Director for IFES' Asia program.
Mohan was a founder and served on the Council for Global Education to create dialogue around education for the future rooted in universal ethics and values. He is also the co-founder of the Mudra Dance/ Theater Ensemble which combines theater, dance and music to address issues of social concern such as equality and rights of women and minorities, conservation, recycling and poverty alleviation.
Vasu Mohan has a Master's in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida, Gainesville, with a specialization in sustainable development and a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. He is fluent in Tamil and Hindi and conversant in Sinhala and Urdu.
