IFES is implementing the three-year Sudan Election Administration Support Program (SEASP) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Designed to deliver technically sound and credible elections as called for in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the IFES Sudan program is providing advisory services and technical and material assistance to the Sudanese National Elections Commission (NEC) and the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC) and its subsidiary, the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau (SSRB).
By the end of the program in September 2011, Sudanese voters will have cast ballots for presidential, gubernatorial and legislative elections (April 2010), as well as the Southern Sudan Referendum on self-determination (January 2011). The IFES program accompanies all phases of the electoral process by supporting local election management bodies and building capacity in the areas of the regulatory framework, organizational structure, operations, training and database management. In addition, IFES has procured and delivered a variety of electoral commodities to the NEC and SSRC/SSRB, including voter registration materials, training manuals and leaflets, polling center kits and booths and voter education materials.
