    Indonesia

Emerging from decades of New Order authoritarian rule in 1998, Indonesia entered an era of bold reform characterized by democracy-building. Indonesia is seen today as a vibrant regional example of democracy working to achieve compromise and political stability. Since the beginning of democratic reforms in 1998, IFES has been involved in governance, rule of law, elections and civil society in Indonesia. Project In Brief

Through the Representative Political Parties (RPP) project, IFES works with election administrators and civil society to review challenges in administration, process, materials and law from the 2009 elections. IFES staff and election law experts collaborate with local partners to synthesize information gathered from electoral dialogues and international best practices. From there, lessons-learned are applied to local elections and 2014 national elections.
