In April 2010, the Kyrgyz Republic transitioned from a presidential to a parliamentary system of governance. While adjusting to this new system, Kyrgyzstan is working to reverse a decades-long trend of election mismanagement and abuse of power by making elections competitive and improving the legitimacy and appeal of the process to citizens. IFES’ Election Administration Support Project seeks to create a more professional, fair and legitimate electoral process in the Kyrgyz Republic.
