Project In Brief

Under this project, IFES entered into a partnership with the King Prajadhipok Institute (KPI) to conduct a seminar on Money and Politics and a post-elections event to consider best practices and lessons learned from the 2007/2008 parliamentary election cycle. A partnership with the Social Research Institute (SRI) at Chulalongkorn University involved the institute in assessing the performance of a target group of Provincial Election Commissions (ProvECs). IFES prepared a series of commentaries on organic acts governing the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT), elections, and political parties. IFES legal experts consulted with various bodies on the adjudication of election-related grievances and prepared a White Paper on the same issue. Responding to an ECT request, IFES experts participated in the Election Commission’s 10th Anniversary Conference in June 2008. Experts delivered presentations on considerations in applying modern technologies to the electoral process, as well as needed reform of the system for handling election complaints.
