Guinea has announced the new transitional government that will steer the nation towards elections in June. Elizabeth Cote, IFES chief of party in Guinea, comments:
"After three long weeks of waiting, the Guinean population was presented last night with a brand new 33 member transition government. This was not an easy task for Prime Minister Jean-Marie Doré who, in the name of national unity, had to find a competent team that met the geographic and ethnic criteria, took into consideration political allegiences, and achieved a good gender and age balance. The final result seems like one that could work as Guinea recovers from a year of setbacks and sets out to organize what could be the first truly democratic elections in its history."
