IFES’ election assistance program in Côte d’Ivoire is featured in the U.S. State Department’s "Supporting Human Rights and Democracy: The U.S. Record 2006" report released April 5. IFES’ Strengthening the Electoral Process Program is aimed at supporting free and fair presidential elections in the West African country scheduled for October 2007. It includes a variety of activities including training in election administration for Côte d’Ivoire’s Independent Electoral Commission and roundtables that seek to increase voter knowledge and participation in the process. The State Department report, which is submitted annually to Congress, details what the United States did to promote democracy and human rights in nearly 100 countries.
