Kevin Casas-Zamora, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former vice president of Costa Rica, visited IFES to talk about the "murky" political situation in Honduras. He addressed the deposed President Zelaya's actions preceding his removal from power; stated that the Honduran military's actions constituted a coup; praised the United States' reaction to the situation ("for once, the U.S. sided unequivocally with democracy"); discussed Costa Rican President Arias' role in the reconciliation negotiations; and shared his thoughts on how Honduras can resolve this conflict.
