The British Embassy has awarded Bill Sweeney, IFES president and CEO, the honorary title of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). Given by Queen Elizabeth II, the award is in recognition of Mr. Sweeney's service in promoting British business interests and for his efforts to strengthen the business relationship between the US and the UK.

Mr. Sweeney was presented with the honorary OBE by British Ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald at an investiture ceremony at the British Ambassador's residence on Friday, 19 June.

In presenting Mr. Sweeney with the honorary OBE, Ambassador Sheinwald said, "Bill Sweeney has been a key ally in advancing British economic interests in Washington; helping to inform Her Majesty's Government on policymaking; and working in parallel with the Embassy to deliver on a number of shared objectives. Bill's personal commitment to the UK-US relationship has helped to transform the link between the Embassy and the business community towards real delivery on shared policy goals."

Mr. Sweeney comments: "I am extraordinarily honored by this presentation but the real credit goes to the men and women from the business community in Washington, D.C., London and New York City who are British American Business as well as the professionals at the embassy who have all worked in partnership to advance the business dialogue between the United Kingdom and the United States."
