On April 13, 2010, Beverly Hagerdon Thakur, IFES Chief of Party in the Philippines, delivered a presentation on electoral management organizations at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. The presentation is part of a seminar series on comparative electoral systems, design and practice aimed at linking current election issues to the institutional aspects of elections, thereby providing a deeper understanding for political analysis. Audience for the seminar included members of the academia (lecturers, instructors, public school teachers, and graduate fellows from the University of Peace), and some representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Aside from Beverly’s presentation on EMBs, other topics included political party institutions, party list system, role of civil society in elections, campaign finance, election technologies and electoral dispute resolution.
