On April 22, 2010, IFES signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova. The 5-year agreement codifies the recent cooperation between IFES and the CEC during the 2009 parliamentary elections and the July 2009 snap poll, and ushers in a new era of collaboration between the two institutions. Specifically, IFES and the CEC will work together to improve the system of voter registration, strategic planning, protecting citizens’ constitutionally guaranteed electoral rights, electoral law reform, voter and civic education, and the training of electoral officials. The signing of the Memorandum took place at the CEC’s offices in Chisinau.
