IFES President & CEO Speaks at the Mexican Senate

Bill Sweeney, IFES president and CEO, participated in a conference on political reform analysis (Seminario de Análisis sobre Reforma Política) organized by the Mexican Senate’s Instituto Belisario Dominguez;  the institute of legislative research within the Universidad Autónoma de México, the country’s largest public university; Centro de Estudios para un Proyecto Nacional Alternativo, S.C.; and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Mexico. The two-day event began on January 25, 2010 and took place at the Mexican Senate. Mr. Sweeney participated in the fourth panel that took place on January 25. The topic for the panel was an international comparative perspective of the reelection of legislators and officials at the municipal level, as well the reelection of presidents. Mr. Sweeney was joined on the panel by Congressman Carlos Montes (Chile), Doctor Jean Claude Colliard (France) and Dr. Mauricio Merino (Mexico). The event was attended by over 300 people including the current and most recent presidents of the Senate.
