IFES has won a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) award to assist Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in the implementation of its Out of Country Voting (OCV) program for the upcoming parliamentary election. Under the new Iraqi election law, Iraqi citizens abroad are now able to cast a ballot for candidates at the governorate level. The requirements are that the citizen proves their Iraqi citizenship, age and connection to one of Iraq’s 18 governorates. IFES will be working closely with its United Nations counterparts to provide technical support to the IHEC as they expand their work to fulfill this new mandate.
