The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) organized a press conference on May 25 2010 to launch its ‘Five-Year Strategic Plan, 2010-2014’. The plan lays out 15 major goals, and focuses on areas including voter registration, civic/voter education, electoral dispute resolution, and the inclusion of marginalized groups, among others.

While addressing the media, Ishtiak Ahmed Khan (Secretary, ECP) noted that the development of this plan was a revolutionary step in the ECP’s history, and would contribute towards making the electoral process more credible and transparent. The implementation of the plan is also expected to build confidence between stakeholders and the ECP, and enhance its organizational capacity.

A national committee to oversee the implementation of the Five-Year Strategic Plan is in place. IFES Pakistan will provide technical assistance to this program, which receives funding from the Government of Pakistan and financial assistance from other partners.
