A meeting of the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., featured several photographs from IFES’ traveling exhibition, “Sudan: Conflict, Crisis and Democracy.” The exhibition traces the development of democracy in Sudan from the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement to South Sudan’s 2011 referendum for independence.

Rep. Donald Payne (D-N.J.), who arranged for six photographs to be displayed at the 23 September meeting of the Africa Policy Brain Trust, praised IFES’ work in Sudan and thanked IFES for “letting [the Foundation] display this powerful exhibit.” The meeting included remarks by President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire, Deputy Administrator Don Steinberg of the United States Agency for International Development and several members of Congress.

“Sudan: Conflict, Crisis and Democracy” includes 15 photographs by IFES staff, international development professionals and journalists capturing recent gains in democracy in what was once Africa’s largest country. The exhibit has been displayed at InterAction’s Forum 2011 and the Russell Senate Office Building, and will appear at the National Press Club in December.
