IFES Board Director Irena Hadžiabdić Discusses Her Career

On March 3, 2015, staff from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) met with one of IFES’ newest Board Directors, Irena Hadžiabdić, for a brief introduction to her career and to gain insights into how to build a career in election management and administration. IFES President and CEO Bill Sweeney introduced Hadžiabdić, a former IFES employee and current member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Central Election Commission (CEC), and noted that she was the first female Chair of an election commission in a former Soviet country. “Irena Hadžiabdić is a pioneer and a woman leader in global election administration,” Sweeney added.

IFES presents the Democracy Award annually to three individuals: a Republican, a Democrat and a member of the international community. Strategic Planning for Effective Electoral Management in Tunisia

On February 24, 2015, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) organized a presentation at the headquarters of Tunisia’s election management body (EMB), the Independent High Authority for Elections (or Instance Supérieure Indépendente pour les Élections [ISIE]), on “Strategic Planning for Effective Electoral Management.” IFES Senior Consultant on Strategic Planning, and former Chief of Party for IFES Egypt, Antonio Spinelli led the presentations and provided an introduction to main concepts, elements, and methodologies of strategic planning based on his experience writing the IFES guide Strategic Planning for Effective Electoral Management and working with other election commissions throughout the world.
