Poll Worker Trainings ahead of Tunisia’s Parliamentary Elections

On September 30 and October 1, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), in partnership with the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme and the Tunisian election management body, the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), organized a training of over 300 master trainers on the procedures for operating polling stations in the parliamentary elections on October 26. This training is the first of three levels in a cascade training plan created by the ISIE’s Training Department with support from IFES. The participants travelled from all 27 electoral districts in Tunisia to Hammamet, where the training took place.

On October 1, 2014, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) hosted the fifth annual Charles T. Manatt Democracy Awards dinner. This year’s awardees included Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). IFES also honored Board of Directors Chairman Peter Kelly and Vice Chair William Hybl, who are stepping down from their leadership responsibilities after decades of service to not only IFES, but to the causes of freedom and democracy.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is proud to announce the winners of its 2014 Photo Contest, highlighting the importance of democracy by capturing images from around the world that call attention to the electoral and political process. This year IFES received over 500 images and competition was tough.


Our four categories reflect IFES’ thematic work: Election Management; Electoral Integrity and Transparency; Citizen Participation; and Inclusion and Empowerment. A panel of photography and subject matter experts evaluated and judged the photos on relevance to the theme, photographic quality and ability to tell a story.
