On April 4, 2013, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the International Council for Middle East Studies (ICMES) hosted an event to discuss the influential role of Islam in electoral politics and development of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Two Years into the Arab Spring: Islam, Elections and Democratic Transformation also highlighted the role Islam might play in the democratic transformation of the Arab World.

Cataloging Changes in Egypt

On February 11, 2011, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) assumed power following the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak. Since then, the SCAF has overseen the transition process in Egypt. Initially, this process was set by the Constitutional Declaration, issued by the SCAF in March 2011. This document envisions parliamentary elections, the drafting of a new constitution, a constitutional referendum and presidential elections, albeit without a clear timeframe.
