The 11 September general elections in Guatemala were a breakthrough for women's participation in the electoral process. Official figures issued by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal showed that of the 7.3 million citizens registered to vote, more than half, 3.7 million, were women.

IFES' Women's Leadership program, conducted in five provinces across Cambodia the spring of 2011, sought to increase women's personal development and leadership skills and knowledge of the election process. During the week of 14-21 September, some of the participants joined IFES staff in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to discuss what they have learned.

Children in the Democratic Republic of Congo IFES has been working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 1998, and is currently implementing a civic and voter education program. Program Coordinator Matthew Cohen recently visited the DRC to help the project expand to more DRC provinces.
