Guinea Votes in the Presidential Runoff

After decades of dictatorship, Guinea had its first legitimate presidential election on June 27, 2010. The results were accepted by the population, but the poll revealed that Guinea’s electoral commission (CENI because of its acronym in French) had to make many improvements to the voting process.

IFES has been working in Guinea since 1991 and has since conducted several technical assessments and provided technical assistance to a variety of electoral stakeholders, including Guinea’s Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). With USAID funding, IFES has supported the CENI in preparing for transparent, credible, and participatory legislative and presidential elections in 2010.
