BRIDGE Debuts Political Finance Module in Pakistan

The first-ever BRIDGE workshop on Political Finance took place in Lahore, Pakistan on September 2010. This module, a new addition to the list of modules offered by BRIDGE under the second version of the program, looks at how money affects the political process and what countries can do to mitigate its negative effects. BRIDGE (Bridging Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) is a comprehensive professional development course designed by and for election administrators to better understand the electoral process.

Election Commission of Pakistan Holds Workshop on Electoral Reform

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), supported by IFES, conducted a workshop on Electoral Systems and Reform. The event, held on August 16 2010, included a presentation from Prof. Andrew Reynolds (University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill), one of the world’s leading experts on electoral systems. Participants included the Chief Election Commissioner, other senior members of the ECP from all four provinces of Pakistan, civil society representatives and IFES Pakistan staff members.

Promoting Women’s Political Participation in South Asia: Afghanistan, Nepal and India

On 2 June 2010, IFES chaired a panel discussion at InterAction's 2010 annual Forum titled "Promoting Women’s Political Participation in South Asia." Empowerment, be it economic, social, or political, is key to improving the status of women. Increased active participation in the public sphere and political life complements economic sufficiency and enables women to gain full citizenship. South Asia provides a fertile source of experiences in this area and offers relevant learning that can benefit gender programming in other regions.

The Election Commission of Pakistan Unveils its Five-Year Strategic Plan

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) organized a press conference on May 25 2010 to launch its ‘Five-Year Strategic Plan, 2010-2014’. The plan lays out 15 major goals, and focuses on areas including voter registration, civic/voter education, electoral dispute resolution, and the inclusion of marginalized groups, among others.
