IFES supported Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) in hosting an international conference of regional election administrators in Singhaghi from February 9-11.   The event brought together Georgian election commissioners with top-ranking election officials from Belarus; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Latvia; Lithuania; Macedonia; Romania; Slovenia; and Ukraine.

Stalled on Substance: Democratization and Public Opinion in Post- Orange Revolution Ukraine

This study attempts to understand Ukraine’s failure to achieve consolidation after the Orange Revolution by analyzing substantive, socio-economic indicators that stalled democratization. This analysis operationalizes a rich body of literature on democratization through application of public opinion data and identifies significant predictors of democratization in Ukraine.

Country In Brief

Since 1994 IFES has been working with Ukraine's Central Election Commission (CEC) and other main stakeholders to strengthen democratic processes and administration of elections in the country. IFES assisted the CEC in legal reform and drafting the constitution with the judicial, parliament and election management board. IFES also has an extensive history of the public opinion research in Ukraine with 17 annual surveys conducted to date.
