IFES Democracy Fellowships
Annually, IFES awards two to four $5,000 Democracy Studies Fellowships to bring outstanding graduate students to Washington, D.C. to conduct research in democracy development. Based at IFES' F. Clifton White Applied Research Center for Democracy and Elections, Fellows have access toIFES experts as well as IFES' internationally recognized collection of election-related research. Fellows conduct independent research at IFES mentors for 6 to 8 weeks and must complete a paper for presentation to the public or IFES colleagues. Start dates are flexible.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be a US or international students studying at a US university in the Midwest or Rocky Mountain region of the US (see details below).
- Applicants should be graduate students in either Master’s or PhD programs who have not yet completed their degree.
- Applicants should be pursuing a degree in international relations, political science, public administration, or a related area.
Charles and Kathleen Manatt Democracy Studies Fellowship
The Manatt Fellowship is available for US or international graduate students attending universities in the American Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, or Wisconsin).
William and Kathy Hybl Democracy Studies Fellowship (Deadline extended to May 14)
The Hybl Fellowship is available to US or international graduate students attending universities in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming).
How to Apply
Applications for the Manatt Fellowship are closed for 2008. Results will be announced in May.

To apply, please submit by mail the following documents:
- A completed application form (1 original and 2 copies). Click here for a printable Hybl Fellows application.
- Your curriculum vitae (3 copies)
- An unpublished academic writing sample (3 copies, up to 10 pages in length – can be excerpts)
- Your current graduate transcript (if first semester please include previous transcript)
- Letters of recommendation from one faculty member familiar with your work
