IFES - Governance - Improve the transparency and efficiency of government institutions by building the management capacity, independence and professionalism of public officials.
Governance
Good governance prevails when government officials manage public institutions in an efficient, transparent manner that is responsive to citizens’ concerns. It also requires that citizens work collaboratively with officials in the pursuit of common social, political, economic and cultural goals.
IFES helps to improve the transparency and efficiency of government institutions by building the management capacity, independence and professionalism of public officials in order to enable them to better serve their constituents. We achieve this goal by: (1) fostering dialogue among government agencies, political parties and civil society organizations; (2) designing programs to increase public participation in the decision-making process; (3) offering government institutions research-based public policy guidelines; and (4) promoting responsive, transparent and accountable governance at the national, regional and local levels.
Featured Governance Projects
This project aims both to enhance the credibility of the Regional Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Daerah or DPD) by building and encouraging constituency outreach by its members and to increase the effectiveness of the DPD as a legislative body by increasing its access to locally produced research and policy analysis.
IFES partnered with the International Republican Institute (IRI) to put on a three-day conference in Brasilia, Brazil (9-11 August 2005), to discuss the political reform initiatives that are currently before the Brazilian Congress.
In order to enable Pakistani legislators to more effectively perform their civic functions, IFES organized a series of activities that equipped them with the practical knowledge and tools they needed.
