IFES Welcomes New Secretary of State

Published

"The work of democracy is never done. In the last 25 years, the number of democractic states has grown enormously—from less than 30 to more than 75. But even as we celebrate the advance of democracy, we must be eternally watchful against the forces that could scratch away at it, or tear it down altogether."
-Former U.S. Senator and newly-appointed Secretary of State John Kerry on IFES' 25th anniversary

As John Kerry begins his tenure as U.S. Secretary of State, we look forward to working with him in advancing democracy and individual rights so citizens around the world are empowered to have a voice in the way they are governed.

Since the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) opened its doors more than 25 years ago, we have worked hand in hand with government institutions, election management bodies, civil society and individuals in over 135 countries. As the global leader in democracy promotion, we advance good governance and democratic rights by providing technical assistance to election officials; empowering the underrepresented to participate in the political process; and applying field-based research to improve the electoral cycle.

As Secretary Kerry takes the helm of American diplomacy and development, IFES will continue to promote sustainable democratic values that are everybody's human right.
