Khatuna Khvichia is Deputy Regional Director for the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) Europe and Eurasia region. She previously served as a senior program manager on the same team. She has more than 20 years of experience in developing, monitoring, and managing international development projects in the field of democracy and governance. Before joining IFES, she worked at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Democracy and Governance Office in Georgia and Myanmar, managing projects on election assistance, good governance, rule of law, and political party development. Before USAID, Khatuna was a senior advisor at the National Democratic Institute office in Tbilisi, a member of the Open Society Georgia Foundation team, and a staff member in the Georgian national parliament. Ms. Khvichia also has extensive teaching experience in project management and leadership at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs.

During her career, Ms. Khvichia contributed to various publications, including guidebooks and manuals for election management officials, parliament staff, and election observers. Her most recent publication, Women’s Leadership As A Route to Greater Empowerment, Georgia Case Study, was published by Management System International in December 2014. Khatuna holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, as well as a law and economics degree from Tbilisi State University. She is fluent in Russian and Georgian.
