IFES

Pakistan

Rural women in Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province attend an IFES voter education workshop.
IFES began offering technical assistance to Pakistan’s election authorities in 2002. Since then, we have advanced the democratic process through technical assistance to the election commission, training for legislators, public opinion surveys, and civic education campaigns.

Our programming helps Pakistanis build democratic institutions and encourages the average citizen to continue working toward a free and fair representative political system. In 2006, IFES established an office in Pakistan, which has helped us build relationships with local institutions. IFES’ work in Pakistan has been funded by USAID, the U.S. Department of State, and the United Nations.
Current Projects
Building Pakistan's Electoral Infrastructure

In anticipation of elections in late 2007 or early 2008, IFES is working to strengthen the capacity of the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to establish and maintain a credible computerized voter registry and to conduct an effective public awareness campaign about the voter registry. IFES remains confident that this project will help strengthen the electoral process by equipping the ECP with the skills and knowledge necessary to administer elections and to fully enfranchise Pakistani citizens.
