Ensuring Everyone Can Exercise Their Right to Vote
In preparation for Nicaragua’s 2006 presidential elections, IFES worked with the CSE and Fundación SOLIDEZ (a group that advocates for the rights of women and the disabled) to ensure that people with disabilities could exercise their right to vote.
IFES helped the CSE incorporate elements into their poll worker training about the rights of disabled voters. IFES also gave Fundación SOLIDEZ a grant that enabled them to station trained facilitators at polling stations to offer assistance to disabled voters and to air radio and TV ads encouraging disabled voters to participate in the November election.
As part of this project, IFES created a video describing and advocating for the rights of voters with disabilities.
