On July 1, 2012, Mexico held presidential and legislative elections. The stakes were high as the previous general elections, which took place in July 2006, were extremely close and over the past six years Mexico has been fighting a drug war that has claimed the lives of thousands.  Bill Sweeney, IFES President and CEO, was in Mexico City for the elections.
