Embracing Democracy: Mexicans Turn Out in High-Stakes Election
On July 1, 2012, Mexico held presidential and legislative elections. The stakes were high as the previous general elections, which took place in July 2006, were extremely close and over the past six years Mexico has been fighting a drug war that has claimed the lives of thousands. He shares with us his observations of Election Day, his thoughts on the Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE)-Mexico's election commission, and how bodies like the IFE and IFES collaborate to help developing democracies strengthen their electoral systems.
