Snap Elections and Kazakhstani Democracy

Kazakhstan will hold snap parliamentary elections on January 15, 2012. Legislative elections were originally scheduled for August 2012, but parliament was dissolved and the elections were moved up to allow a second party into the legislature. Anthony Bowyer, IFES program manager for the Caucasus and Central Asia, tells us how this will affect the parties running in the election and what it really means for democracy in the country.
