Europe Day 2025
Seventy-five years ago, the presentation of the Schuman Declaration ushered in a new era for peace, integration, and democratic cooperation in Europe, laying the groundwork for the establishment of the European Union (EU).
Over decades, the EU has served as a leader in promoting peace and security and protecting fundamental rights and freedoms in Europe and around the world.
IFES has worked in partnership with European governments, public institutions, election management bodies, academia, and civil society for nearly 40 years. In line with European Commission’s 2024-2029 seven key priorities, EU cooperation priorities, and EU thematic and geographic multi annual indicative programs, IFES works in partnership with democratic actors to defend democracy by bolstering their capacity to mitigate against their most serious threats to protect electoral integrity, strengthening rule of law, championing civic engagement and participation, navigating digital threats and new technologies, and increasing societal resilience.
Across Europe and its neighborhoods, IFES engages with state institutions, civil society organizations, media, young people and other key stakeholders to strengthen democratic resilience, electoral integrity, and civic engagement. IFES provides innovative, cutting-edge approaches to further democratic principles, mobilize civic spaces, and advance the rule of law. Amidst growing democratic backsliding and foreign malign interference, IFES’ assistance is targeted, non-partisan, and contextualized, to deliver democracies for all.
IFES celebrates Europe Day with all our European colleagues and partners, and looks forward to growing our future collaboration to strengthen democratic institutions and processes in Europe and beyond.
