IFES Applauds Adoption of UN Security Resolution on Youth, Peace and Security

Published

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (December 11, 2015) — The following is a statement by Bill Sweeney, President and CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES):

“IFES applauds the historic adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 (UN SCR 2250) concerning youth, peace and security. This resolution affords the international community the mandate to create deliberate opportunities for young people to lead in peacebuilding initiatives, as well as meaningful participation in political transitions and inclusive governance.

IFES works to foster understanding of citizens’ rights and responsibilities in pluralistic societies, creating a culture of civic and democratic engagement among young people in the communities in which we work. We look forward to supporting our stakeholders around the world in capitalizing on the opportunities for substantive youth engagement offered by UN SCR 2250.”
