IFES Statement on the Passing of Charlot Jeudy

Published

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) mourns the passing of Charlot Jeudy on November 25, 2019. Jeudy was a human rights advocate and the founder and president of Kouraj, an LGBTQ rights organization in Haiti.

We offer our condolences to Jeudy’s family, friends and colleagues, and remember and honor his dedication to LGBTQ rights in Haiti and around the world.

“IFES and Kouraj partnered on a project promoting LGBTQ civic engagement and participation in Haiti’s electoral process. Our work was enriched by Jeudy’s leadership and passion for community empowerment,” said IFES Country Director for Haiti Sophie Lagueny. “During a time of challenge to LGBTQ rights, particularly in Haiti, the world has lost one of its strongest advocates. Though he will be missed, his voice will never be silenced.”

In honor and memory of Jeudy, IFES reaffirms its commitment to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQ people.
