Myanmar Prepares to Vote

Published

On November 8, Myanmar will hold general elections that are widely considered to be the most competitive in the country’s history. Over 90 parties and 6,000 candidates will vie for seats in the November 8 polls. This is also the first time observer missions have been accredited, with 10,000 domestic and 1,000 international observers monitoring the vote. Campaigning officially ended on Friday, November 6. This photo gallery features images from the waning moments of the campaign period in Yangon – Myanmar’s largest city and commercial capital.

Since 2012, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has partnered with the Union Election Commission (UEC) and 18 civil society organizations throughout Myanmar to prepare for the historic 2015 general elections and strengthen the country’s electoral and democratic processes.
