Ana Cecilia Díaz, Acting Chief of Party, Guatemala
Ana Cecilia Díaz brings to the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) almost 20 years of professional experience in democracy and governance programming, with a focus on electoral administration, empowerment of women and persons with disabilities, and grants management. She currently serves as IFES’ acting chief of party in Guatemala for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Guatemala-funded Electoral Governance and Reforms Program. This project, implemented through the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening, aims at enhancing the capacity of the country’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal and increasing the political participation of persons with disabilities.
Díaz has previously worked with IFES on other USAID Guatemala-funded projects, providing technical assistance in the administration and strengthening of the 2011 and 2015 electoral processes and advocating with civil society organizations (CSOs) on the empowerment of women and persons with disabilities. Prior to working with IFES, Ms. Diaz served as deputy chief of party of the USAID Guatemala-funded Local Governance Project, working with 13 municipalities to improve their tax collection capacity and with local CSOs to enhance social auditing. Additionally, she worked as a program officer for the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Guatemala on activities supporting human rights, the empowerment of women and indigenous peoples, and judicial reform during the post-Peace Accord period.
Díaz holds a master’s degree in development management. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
