Omar Fouad Abdalla, Deputy Country Director, Egypt
Omar Abdalla currently serves as the International Foundation for Electoral Systems' (IFES) deputy country director in Egypt, overseeing the "Political Processes Support" project. Abdalla is a democracy and governance expert with a wide range of experience in development programming, democracy assistance, decentralization, local participation and building institutional partnerships and capacity. He has previously held positions within the Egyptian government, the private sector and other donor-funded projects.
For the IFES project, Abdalla collaborates with senior government counterparts, election management bodies, grassroots organizations, research centers, think tanks and other stakeholders. He has supported nationwide voter education campaigns; established platforms for electoral reform debates and discussions; procured new electoral material and technologies; conducted election-related research and policy briefs; and provided technical assistance to election management bodies and State institutions.
Abdalla holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the American University in Cairo. He is fluent in English and Arabic.
