Elections in Egypt: June 16-17 Presidential Election Run-off

In late May, Egyptians cast their ballots in the first presidential election since the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak.

This weekend, amidst increasing polarization between the two leading candidates, Egyptians will choose to vote for Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate Mohamed Morsi or Ahmed Shafiq, former air force commander and the last prime minister to serve under Mubarak.

Elections in Egypt: June 16-17 Presidential Election Run-off answers additional questions relating to the run-off election, including:

  • What is the legal framework for the presidential election?
  • What are the roles and responsibilities of the judiciary?
  • What are the rules on campaigning?
  • Will the run-off election be monitored?
