Public Opinion in Kyrgyzstan, 1996
This report analyzes the opinion environment in Kyrgyzstan – the views of the public on political and economic developments, independence, government, civil society and organizations, and information sources. Findings are based on the IFES nationwide opinion survey fielded in Kyrgyzstan in November-December 1996. The Executive Summary consists of major findings providing an overview of the survey data. The Interpretation and Forecast section discusses the data in terms of their meaning and future implications. The Setting provides an overview of important developments in Kyrgyzstan since independence. The presentation of the survey results, organized thematically, reports opinion on the following subjects: • Conditions in the Country • Economic Reform • Independence • Government • Civil Society • Information Access The Appendix includes the full question text and the marginal results in tabular form with comparisons, where applicable, to data from an IFES-sponsored nationally representative public opinion survey fielded July 15 to August 2, 1995.

“How to Vote in These Elections” is a newsletter flyer, available in Spanish, published in 1997 by the “La Prensa” newspaper in Honduras, in lead up to the November 30, 1997 General Elections in Honduras and intended to instruct voters on the voting procedures. This special issue of the newsletter contains some cartoons reflecting the political parties participating in the elections.

The Married Persons Equality Act
This document, published in 1997 by the Namibia Institute for Democracy, outlines the “The Married Persons Equality Act.” The acts primary goal was to abolish marital power and property law. The act outlines the legality of marriage, divorce, spousal rights to personal property and a minimum legal age to marry. Although not focusing on the electoral system this piece nevertheless is an example of the legislative process and civil society development.
