“Democratization of the Political Culture and Practices: Work Plan of the “Citizen Participation” 1997-2002” is an informational brochure, available in Spanish, issued in 1997 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic. The brochure contains the attributes of the work plan the “Citizen Participation” movement is trying to achieve during 1997-2002. The work plan reflects the goal of the civic education group to democratize the political culture while creating a conscientious and informed community. Additionally, attached to the document are statements and letters discussing the history of previous elections and the present efforts to implement electoral observation; the concern and commitment to maintain minimum female quota law in the 1998 Congressional and Municipal Elected officials.

Collection of Voter Education Materials from South Africa: Flyers, Posters, Instructions, etc.


This document contains a collection of posters, flyers and civic education literature pertaining to the 1994 national elections in South Africa.  Included are posters with the exact date of the election and pamphlets depicting the voting and registration process.  The material was part of an effort made to provide voter education to the large swath of the South African population who had been denied voting rights until this time.

You Your Vote and the Elections


“You Your Vote and the Elections” was published in 1994 in the lead up to the first elections in South Africa to have universal adult suffrage.  The booklet, published by Black Slash and the Independent Forum for Electoral Education (IFEE), describes the structure of the new South African parliament and constitutional assembly, as well as, who can vote and how the process of voting works.  The booklet was aimed at filling the knowledge gap that existed around the electoral process as a significant portion of South African’s had previously been denied voting rights.

“Que Dieu protege la Guinee” is a September 1993 memo, available in French, which addresses religious citizens of Guinea and summarizes a disastrous situation in which Guineans no longer care for each other, resulting in violence and chaos. The document, published by the Muslim and Christian religious leaders of Guinea, states that the upcoming 1993 Presidential Elections could be a turning point for the country if national unity can be preserved through social justice and freedom.

“La Guinee, une famille a Construire” is an August 1993 essay, available in French, which states that Guinea currently finds itself in a divided state where anarchy is becoming the mode of society – the essay urges citizens of Guinea, instead of spreading violence while waiting for the authorities to react, to take part in politics and make the upcoming 1993 Presidential Elections a turning point for the country. The document, published by the Episcopal Conference of Guinea, expresses the belief that if people follow the route of democracy, that society will settle itself and national unity will be achieved.
