Programa de Educacion Civica en Chile


“The Program for the Civic Education in Chile” is a civic education program handbook, available in Spanish, issued in 1988 by the CIVITAS Foundation in Chile. The handbook starts off with the list of the total number of electoral registration until December 31, 1987. The handbook presents the civic education program and the objectives of the campaign for civic education. Some of the objectives are: helping all Chileans to register to vote, stimulate Chileans who are already registered to express their right to vote, and to produce an educative handbook that would inform voters about the alternatives in the 1988 Chilean national plebiscite. Additionally, the document presents a scheme of the functioning of the program.

“Registered Voters by Region” is a voter registration record issued in 1988 and referring to the number of registered voters in the 1988 Chilean National Plebiscite. This particular document is comprised of tables illustrating the voter registration records by regions for both men and women. Additionally, it illustrates the statistics of foreigners and analphabets who reside in those particular regions, as well as the number of canceled registrations by region and by cause.

“Crusade for the Citizens’ Participation” is a civic education program brochure, available in Spanish, issued in 1988 by the CIVITAS Foundation and the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights, Chile. The brochure describes the “Crusade for the Citizens’ Participation” project identity and objectives, some of these involving the promotion of democracy among the Chilean society by encouraging voter education.

“The Volunteer’s Notebook” is a volunteer guidebook, available in Spanish, believed to be issued in the late 1980s in Chile in lead up to the September 25, 1988 National Chilean Plebiscite. The guidebook is meant to provide guidance to volunteers who wish to spread information on democracy and inspire participation by illustrating the necessity of building a truly democratic Chilean society. The guidebook is meant to stimulate citizens to become involved in learning and spreading the democratic values throughout the Chilean society, it teaches them about the attributes of democracy and the benefits of having a democratic society rather than a dictatorship or autocratic system. It provides information on voter registration in order to stimulate voters’ presence at the polling stations. Additionally, the guide provides background information on the National Chilean Plebiscite, and what it means to vote “yes” or “no.”

“Chile Needs Your Commitment with the Future” is a flyer, available in Spanish, issued by the PARTICIPA Corporation of private law, Chile, and intended to stimulate people to vote in the 1988 national plebiscite in Chile. The flyer reaches out to the Chilean voters encouraging participation that would bring in the country the desired values of a democratic system.
