Earlier this year, Nigeria held the world’s attention with the illness and subsequent death of President Umaru Yar'Adua. After his passing, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan assumed the presidency. IFES Returns to Work with Liberia's National Elections Commission
IFES has been awarded a five‐year cooperative agreement by USAID to support various upcoming elections in Liberia: the constitutional referendum, by‐elections, and national and local elections. These polls are of particular importance because of their central role in supporting the country’s continued transition from a devastated, conflict‐torn nation to one that is slowly building the democratic systems, institutions, and processes needed to promote long‐term stability and development.

IFES is Awarded USAID Grant to Promote Peaceful and Transparent 2010 Elections in Burundi
IFES has been awarded a USAID cooperative agreement for a 19-month $1 million program in Burundi. The project, "Promoting Peaceful and Transparent 2010 Elections in Burundi," seeks to promote peaceful and transparent presidential, legislative and communal elections in 2010. These elections are seen by many in Burundi as a pivotal element in the country’s path to continuous peace.
