16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls Nov. 25 - Dec. 10, 2022.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign that takes place each year, beginning on Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and concluding on Dec. 10,  International Human Rights Day. First launched by feminist activists in 1991, the campaign is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations worldwide to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is proud to participate in amplifying attention to the end of the scourge of gender-based violence. The 2022 global theme is "UNite to End Violence Against Women." Wear orange and join IFES Staff and partners worldwide as we mobilize across social media and beyond throughout the 16 Days under the hashtags #16Days #UNTFeminist and #TrustFeminists. Follow IFES social media on Twitter @IFES1987 and @IFESGender, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, there has been a "shadow pandemic" of Violence Against Women (stats below from UN Women 2021). We honor survivors and call for an end to the violence.

"According to the UN, gender-based violence represents the most common violation of human rights around the world. As with other human rights abuses, gender-based violence slows economic growth, undermines national security, and constitutes a breach of that most sacred of moral contracts: that everyone has the right to feel safe and secure, to freely be their authentic selves, and to chart their own destinies."
- United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator, Samantha Power
