Elections in Iraq: 2018 Council of Representatives Elections

On May 12, Iraq will hold elections for all 329 seats in the Council of Representatives (CoR). CoR members will elect the next president from among themselves within 30 days from their first convening, and the president will then select a prime minister from the majority coalition in the CoR.
The legislative framework for this year’s CoR elections is based on the Elections Law 45 of 2013, amended twice in 2018, and on regulations issued by the Independent High Electoral Commission.
