The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has provided long-term, non-partisan support to election management bodies in Egypt, including the High Election Commission, the Presidential Election Commission, and various other government agencies to enhance their capacity to better administer elections and referenda. IFES has also conducted activities with local partners in Egypt, including local think tanks and universities, to increase public understanding of electoral processes and voter rights and responsibilities, and to support dialogue on electoral reform.

Currently, IFES supports the newly established National Election Authority (NEA) – Egypt’s first permanent election management body – to enhance its institutional capacity to function in line with international best practices of election administration, and work towards sustainable and credible electoral management processes. IFES also provides assistance to elections and referenda managed by the NEA through support to official voter education campaigns, procurement of key electoral materials, and the conduct of awareness-raising workshops.
