First audit report on accessibility recommends design clarity for Mehewara Piyasa

The first audit report on accessibility to public places and Government institutions for persons with disabilities was officially presented to Labour Ministry Secretary. This initiative aims to identify and address accessibility issues in public spaces in Sri Lanka.

The first audit report on accessibility to public places and Government institutions for persons with disabilities was officially presented to Labour Ministry Secretary S. M. Piyatissa and Labour Commissioner General Nadeeka Wataliyadda by Parliamentary Caucus Chairman MP Sugath Wasantha de Silva yesterday at the Labour Department premises.

This initiative aims to identify and address accessibility issues in public spaces, forming part of a broader push to ensure rights, inclusion, and 2026 budget-related reforms for persons with disabilities in Sri Lanka.

Led by MP de Silva and consultant Tikiri Kumara Jayawardena, the comprehensive accessibility audit was conducted with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Australian High Commission. It featured a specialised disability audit team and Labour Department officials.
