IFES and Ireland Join Forces to Enhance Ukraine’s Electoral Security
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has launched a new project in Ukraine supported by the Government of Ireland's Development Programme. This project will strengthen Ukraine’s democratic resilience through critical improvements to the Central Election Commission’s (CEC) information and communications technology (ICT) and cybersecurity infrastructure.
As Ukraine continues to navigate unprecedented challenges, ensuring the security and integrity of its electoral systems is essential. This initiative will equip the CEC with advanced tools and technical expertise to safeguard sensitive data, mitigate cyber threats, and ensure continuity of operations during post-war democratic processes. Cybersecurity has become a frontline issue for democracies worldwide, and Ukraine is no exception. This project will help safeguard democratic processes against disruption and reinforce public confidence in democratic institutions.
This support reflects Ireland’s commitment to Ukraine and to democratic governance and stability, particularly in contexts where these values are under pressure. Through this collaboration, IFES and Ireland aim to deliver practical solutions that strengthen Ukraine’s electoral infrastructure and contribute to long-term democratic resilience.
This project is part of IFES’s broader mission to ensure that post-war democratic processes are secure, transparent, and inclusive.
“Through its foreign policy, Ireland works globally to promote and protect democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Functioning democratic institutions are central to this, as they are to Ukraine’s EU accession path. We are glad to support Ukraine in its efforts to ensure its electoral institutions are secure and resilient, working in partnership with the Central Election Commission of Ukraine and IFES to put in place robust ICT and cybersecurity infrastructure.”
