Russia's Democratic Awakening

Published

To celebrate its silver anniversary, IFES is releasing monthly podcasts on current efforts for democracy around the world looked at through the lens of 25 years in the field of democracy-promotion. This first podcast focuses on Russia’s latest demonstrations for credible elections following the December 2011 vote for parliament. Irina Zaslavskaya, a native of St. Petersburg who facilitated IFES’ first interaction with Russia’s election commission, talks to us about helping empower the first post-Soviet election management bodies and the yearning for dignity before one’s government.
