Remembering Kalle Könkkölä, Finnish Politician and Disability Rights Advocate
IFES is saddened by the passing of Finnish politician and disability rights advocate Kalle Könkkölä on September 11. He served from 1983 to 1987 as the first member of the Finnish Parliament with a disability, developing key pieces of legislation on disability inclusion and independent living.

Suriname Emerges
“Suriname Emerges,” was a play written in 1993 that was intended to stimulate a discussion and teach about civic values. The play set in a futuristic, cohesive and democratic Suriname with Creole as the primary language of the performance. However the actions and visual narrative of the actors on stage express the plays message as well, making it accessbile to a wide audience.

Democratic Transition in the Islands: A Final Report on the IFES Civic Education Project in Comoros, May 18 - June 13, 1992
This report was created in response to requests from the Government of Comoros to IFES to help in the establishment of structures and procedures in preparation for legislative elections. The report identifies civic and voter education as an area where the Government of Comoros could improve its electoral system.
