Analysis of the Status of Women in Burundi’s Political and Electoral Processes
Burundi is one of few countries in the world to have adopted a gender quota for its legislature in an effort to promote the inclusion and participation of women in the political process. As such, it presents an informative case study on the impact a gender quota can have as a catalyst for more progressive and inclusive governance. Given the International Foundation for Electoral System’s (IFES) commitment to gender equality and women’s participation in electoral processes and government, a thorough analysis demonstrating the effectiveness of quotas is a vital effort that aids IFES in supporting their use as a tool for democratic progress.

“Campagne nationale d'éducation à la citoyenneté” is a pamphlet from May 2005, available in French, which briefly describes 14 rights or duties that are the responsibility of citizens of Guinea. The document, published with the help of IFES, explains the importance of a birth certificate, the benefits of paying taxes and the civil duty to register and vote.

Campagne nationale d'education a la citoyenneté : Conference - Debat
“Campagne nationale d’education a la citoyenneté: Conférence – Débat” is a pamphlet from 2005, available in French, which explains the electoral system and the different facets of the constitution in Guinea – mostly importantly it tries to educate citizens on how they can have access to the government and its services by participating in politics. The document, published with the help of IFES, contains a glossary of terms connected to human rights and a letter serving as an example for how to file a complaint.

Armenia Final Report
This report describes the details from IFES efforts to strengthen Armenia’s democratic structures from 1997 to 2002. The report discusses the development of election legislation, IFES support for the Central Election Commission and support for the overall electoral process and conduct of elections. Importancia do voto da mulher
“The Importance of Women’s Vote” is an informative brochure, available in both Portuguese and Creole, published in 1999 by the NGO “PROMOCONSULT” in Guinea-Bissau, in lead up to the November, 1999 General Election in Guinea-Bissau. The guide is specifically meant to encourage women’s participation in the elections and to educate them on the importance of voting and freedom to choose that comes with it. The guide is comprised of cartoons and short dialogues between several women at a local gathering.

“The Democracy is in Your Hand: Vote” is an informative flyer, available in Portuguese, issued in 1999 by the National Electoral Commission of Guinea-Bissau, in lead up to the November 28, 1999 General Election in Guinea-Bissau.
