Une caravane de la paix en Guinée
Depuis mardi 15 juin et jusqu’au lundi 19 juin, des Guinéennes sillonnent leur pays au sein de la « Caravane de la paix ». Leur objectif est de promouvoir et d’apaiser les esprits avant les premières élections démocratiques qui se tiendront le 27 juin prochain. Le régime politique qui a été mis en place en Guinée dans le cadre de la Loi Fondamentale du 23 décembre 1990, renforcé par la Loi Constitutionnelle du 11 novembre 2001, est celui présidentiel avec une large prépondérance du Président de la République, Chef de l’Exécutif.

IFES Launches Innovative Civic Education Program in the Democratic Republic of Congo
USAID recently awarded IFES a $5.2 million contract to conduct a 2‐year civic education program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The program is designed to help fulfill the Congolese government’s commitment to a process of decentralization to reverse the country’s legacy of poor governance, corruption, and geographic inequality by bringing greater accountability and inclusion at the local level.

“Democratization of the Political Culture and Practices: Work Plan of the “Citizen Participation” 1997-2002” is an informational brochure, available in Spanish, issued in 1997 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic. The brochure contains the attributes of the work plan the “Citizen Participation” movement is trying to achieve during 1997-2002. The work plan reflects the goal of the civic education group to democratize the political culture while creating a conscientious and informed community. Additionally, attached to the document are statements and letters discussing the history of previous elections and the present efforts to implement electoral observation; the concern and commitment to maintain minimum female quota law in the 1998 Congressional and Municipal Elected officials.

Que Dieu protege la Guinee
“Que Dieu protege la Guinee” is a September 1993 memo, available in French, which addresses religious citizens of Guinea and summarizes a disastrous situation in which Guineans no longer care for each other, resulting in violence and chaos. The document, published by the Muslim and Christian religious leaders of Guinea, states that the upcoming 1993 Presidential Elections could be a turning point for the country if national unity can be preserved through social justice and freedom.
