Ninth Forum on Latin American Democracy Held in Mexico City
On April 4-5, IFES co-sponsored the Ninth Forum on Latin American Democracy, hosted by Mexico’s National Electoral Institute in Mexico City. Vice President of Programs Michael Svetlik represented IFES at the conference, which was centered around “Challenges of Politics and Democracy in the Digital Era.”

Regional Director on “The Elections We Want” in Africa
As part of its annual report, the Wilson Center Africa Program asked IFES Regional Director for Africa Rushdi Nackerdien to contribute an essay on recent African elections. His piece, “The Elections We Want,” covered 2017 elections in Angola, Rwanda, Liberia, Senegal, the Gambia, and Kenya, and their implications for election practitioners moving forward.

IFES President and CEO On Technology in Elections
In August, the Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE), the Mexican elections commission, hosted a four-day conference to explore key electoral topics, including challenges in the administration and organization of elections; political and media rights in elections; and access to electoral justice. The conference brought together election experts, practitioners and academics from all over the world as well as government officials. The event took place in Morelia, Mexico.

Sierra Leone Votes in National Elections
Presidential and Parliamentary Elections were held in Sierra Leone on August 11, 2007. National and International Election Observers were present to monitor the vote for free and fair results. Despite bad weather, citizens arrived early, and eagerly voted within the regulated precincts.

Electoral Management Bodies as Institutions of Governance
“Electoral Management Bodies as Institutions of Governance,” is the lead article from the November 2000- April 2001 edition of “Elecciones Mexico.” The piece discusses the new process of electoral management as a new tool of the electoral and democratic processes. Specifcally, the work of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES) in this field is highlighted. This edition of the publication also contains an article on electronic vote counting.

Sierra Leone Pre-Election Assessment, November 1995
This Pre-Election Assessment from Sierra Leone focused on two issues: computer and information management needs of the Commission, and the overall status of INEC preparations to hold elections on February 26, 1996. The report discusses the legal framework, voter registration, civic education, election day preparations and IFES recommendations.
